James C. Mannion, Ph.D. - President & CEO and Founder of Galleon
Jim has a 25 year track record of technical innovation and commercial success in the pharmaceutical industry that includes clinical development (Burroughs Wellcome, Beecham), drug safety (Beecham), regulatory affairs (SmithKline Beecham), business unit development and management (Quintiles), corporate venture capital (Quintiles) and biotechnology senior management (EpiGenesis, Aptus, and Galleon).
Jim’s scientific and business training includes pharmacy (B.S., Ohio Northern), pharmacy administration (M.S., Purdue), clinical pharmacy (Ph.D., Purdue), clinical drug research/drug development (Post-doctoral fellowship, University of North Carolina) and management (University of Tennessee). Purdue University named Jim as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2002.
Richard Woodward, Ph.D. - Vice President, Drug Discovery
Richard Woodward is a scientist and executive with 18 years pharmaceutical industry experience. Prior to his appointment at Galleon, Dr Woodward has worked for Acea Pharmaceuticals, CoCensys, Purdue Neurosciences, Purdue Pharma LP and Adolor Corporation. His background is in CNS and PNS small molecule drug discovery, in particular neuroprotectants (stroke), anticonvulsants, anxiolytics, sedative/hypnotics, anesthetics, and anti-dyskinetics for Parkinson’s disease. For the past eight years, his focus has been the discovery of novel therapeutics for treating acute and chronic pain states together with medicines to alleviate the side effects associated with opioid analgesics.
As a scientist and manager, Dr Woodward has been directly involved with advancing 17 compounds from discovery into preclinical and clinical development. He has 66 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Dr Woodward received his BS degree in Cell and Molecular Biology from King’s College London and his PhD in Biophysics from University College London. His academic training was in electrophysiology and pharmacology.
Scott L. Dax, Ph.D. - Senior Director, Head of Medicinal Chemistry
Scott has twenty years of pharmaceutical research experience in the areas of anti-infectives, CNS agents and analgesia (Hoffmann-LaRoche, Dupont-Merck and Johnson & Johnson). Scott received his masters and doctorate degrees in chemistry (organic) at The University of Michigan. Scott was also a National Institutes of Health Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Wisconsin.
Scott has over forty publications, eight issued US patents (ten pending), has written one textbook and served as co-editor for two book series.
Sean Peng, Ph.D. - Head, Bioanalytical Chemistry & DMPK
Sean has over sixteen years of pharmaceutical research experience in the areas of analytical/bioanalytical chemistry, in vitro ADMET, and in vivo PK/PD/TK. Prior to joining Galleon Pharmaceuticals, Sean headed bioanalysis/DMPK groups at Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble, respectively.
Sean obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Sean has published more than forty peer-reviewed research articles, invited reviews, and book chapters and received an AAPS award for his work on hyphenated separation technologies.
Paul Hoskins - Head, Clinical Operations & Preclinical Outsourcing
Paul has over 16 years of global pharmaceutical clinical development and GXP compliance experience. Program Management includes Phase 1 to Phase 4 studies that span multiple first in man studies to multicenter global registration programs.
Paul attended Ohio State University with a major in biochemistry. He is an ASQ Certified Quality Auditor.
